Nurses, Patients Rally to Save Acute Rehab in San Mateo County: Wednesday
Sutter Health Wants To Downgrade Rehabilitation Services and Drive Vulnerable Patients Out of County
Despite recent public claims to the contrary by Sutter management, Mills-Peninsula Health Services still plans to cancel all acute rehabilitation services for Sutter patients in San Mateo County—and as a result, will see a protest by furious nurses and patients from across the Bay Area tomorrow night.
If Sutter’s efforts to close acute rehab and replace it with downgraded services is successful, severely ill patients will be expected to drive to San Francisco or Santa Clara to participate in an acute rehabilitation program.
WHAT: Nurses, Patients Rally for Acute Rehab Services in San Mateo WHEN: Wednesday – Sept. 23, 6:00 p.m. WHERE: Mills-Peninsula Health Services 100 S. San Mateo Drive, San Mateo
“Sutter’s plan means San Mateo patients will suffer from a a serious downgrading of services and staff. Every aspect of the acute rehab program will suffer. The intensity and types of therapy available to patients will decrease. Expected outcomes for patients will also decrease. Length of stay is expected to increase, which will increase the risk of complications of prolonged hospitalization such as blood clots, pneumonia, and depression,” said Genel Morgan, an RN at Mills-Peninsula and a member of the CNA/NNOC Board of Directors. “We need to save Mills-Peninsula acute-care rehab.”
